Common sales arguments from wedding photographers worth analysing with perspective
When you're looking for a photographer or videographer for your wedding, especially if you're comparing different wedding photographers in Barcelona or other parts of Spain, it's normal to hear certain sales arguments over and over that sound very convincing… but don't always tell the whole story. After years working in weddings and seeing how the industry operates from the inside, we wanted to share our perspective on some of the most common commercial messages that tend to come up during the search process. Not to discredit anyone — every professional has their own way of working — but to help you make informed decisions and truly understand what's behind each argument.
1. "The more guests you have, the more photographers you need"
It's a phrase you hear a lot, but reality is a bit more nuanced. The number of photographers doesn't determine how many guests will appear in your gallery. If you want to make sure certain people are photographed, the best way is still to plan your group shots well and clearly communicate to your photographer which people are important to you. So what does a second photographer actually bring? Mainly, better coverage. More angles, more simultaneous moments captured and a richer narrative of the day. For example: while one photographer captures the entrance from the front, the other can be documenting the reaction of the other member of the couple or the guests. It doesn't automatically mean "more guests photographed"; it means more complete and cinematic coverage.

2. Not everything trendy ages well
Trends can be inspiring, but it's worth remembering something important: your wedding isn't being created for this year's Instagram — it's for your lifetime memory. Before getting swept up by a visual trend, an editing style or a viral idea, ask yourselves something very simple: Will this still represent us in 20 years? The most valuable images tend to be the most timeless.

3. "Hire the venue's vendors because they know the space better"
It's a common argument and, while it has some surface logic, knowing a space doesn't always equal working better in it. In fact, when a professional constantly works at the same location, there's a risk of falling into automatisms: the same framing, the same corners, the same photos over and over. From our experience, creativity often comes from facing new scenarios with fresh eyes. A good photographer doesn't depend on knowing a venue by heart to do great work. They depend on their ability to observe, adapt and create.

4. A pre-wedding shoot shouldn't be needed to "see if you connect"
Pre-wedding sessions can be wonderful and incredibly valuable. But they shouldn't be framed as a test to discover whether you feel comfortable with your photographer. Our view is simple: that trust should exist before hiring. If you don't feel connection, comfort or good chemistry from the start, the pre-wedding probably won't fix that. A pre-wedding should be a lovely extra for those who want it, not a tool to validate a professional relationship that should already be clear.

5. More extras don't always mean a better proposal
Sometimes you'll find quotes full of add-ons: pre-wedding, post-wedding, drone, photo booth, albums, gifts, discounts… And while all of that can sound very appealing, it's worth asking yourself a simple question: Is the work convincing me… or is the package convincing me? Extras can add value, yes. But they should never distract you from the main question: do you truly love their work?

6. A good decision deserves time to think
Choosing the team that will document one of the most important days of your life shouldn't be rushed. A serious professional perfectly understands that you need to compare, think and evaluate calmly. If you feel constant pressure to close quickly, the healthiest thing is usually to take a step back and remember that important decisions deserve space.

7. Real demand is felt more than proclaimed
Professionals with a solid track record and high demand rarely need to insist too much on how in-demand they are. Usually, their work, their portfolio and the experience of their couples speak for themselves. Rather than listening to how much someone says they're booked, look at the consistency of their work, how they communicate and the trust they convey.

Frequently asked questions when hiring a wedding photographer
How many photographers do I need for my wedding?
It depends much more on the coverage you want than on the number of guests. A second photographer brings more angles and better visual narrative, but not necessarily more guests photographed.
Is a pre-wedding shoot mandatory before the wedding?
No. It can be a lovely and useful experience, but the trust with your photographer should exist before hiring. That said, it might be useful for your invitations, save the date or simply as a gift for your grandparents.
Should I hire vendors recommended by my venue?
They can be great professionals, but we always recommend comparing options and choosing based on your own criteria, not just the venue's recommendation.
